St Nicholas Cramlington

The extended parish centre at Cramlington is now handed over and looking smart with its new zinc roof and cladding, a much better neighbour for the listed church building than the previous leaking 1960s box-like hall. It was officially opened by Lord Ridley in November 2008.

Work involved an extension to provide a new accessible entrance foyer for both the church and the parish centre, full internal refurbishment and reorganization of the existing hall building and a complete new pitched zinc roof to unify new and old portions of the building.

Security is enhanced by the roof overhangs to prevent climbing and by purpose-designed railings and gates to the new entrance courtyard. At night discrete perforated electrical shutters can be closed, descending from hidden casings in the window heads, with a light left on inside, to maximise security.

Inside the hall is complemented by the new foyer, a new meeting room, refitted kitchen and accessible wc facilities.
