The Old Brewery, Ovington

Conversion of a listed Grade II former brewery into two houses. The project was shortlisted in the NE Civic Trust’s House & Cottage Awards scheme. The design approach was to keep the exterior appearance as unaltered as possible, using existing openings and matching materials. Internally contemporary detailing is used, although the proportions reflect the C18 date of the building. The former brewery ventilation openings enable large windows unusual in a conversion project. Historic features such as stone flooring and roof timbers are retained. New features include designer radiators, a heat recovery ventilation system, good insulation values, double glazed timber windows and a central vacuum cleaner system.
